Learn To Knit A Ribbed Scarf | Part 1, Gather Supplies
How To Knit A Ribbed Scarf
Right! You’re here because you’d like to learn how to knit. Let’s first sort out what you will need to start. I’ll wait on publishing more until you have acquired the basics.
If you have any questions, please leave them for me in the comments section.
You will need:
A pair (2 total) of straight size 8 knitting needles (I prefer bamboo, but you may use any type that you prefer. Just make sure that they are size 8.)
A skein of worsted weight yarn (Mine says 100 grams, or approximately 200 yards on it. It must be worsted weight to come out correctly. You want a yarn that says that it knits up to 5 sts (stitches) equal 1” with size 8 needles. If you plan to eventually wash your scarf, you may want to consider what it will be made of (wool, acrylic, rayon, cotton, etc) and how it will tolerate washing. Different yarn has different washing instructions. Choose a basic color, and an uncomplicated yarn for this first project so that you can easily see the stitches on the needle. Don’t choose yarn with loops or texture. Trust me.
A pair of scissors (to cut the yarn)
An embroidery needle (to weave in ends)
Time, preferably quiet and undisturbed
I’m so excited to be guiding you through this! Get your supplies, and I’ll see you soon!
